Basenji Links
Links to basenji sites abound on the web. A search at
Google, for
example, reveals thousands of them.
The Basenji Webring
at last count had 53.
For an indiscriminate list of web sites, search for yourself. The best
three, in my opinion, are these:
Basenji Companions
One problem facing basenji owners is that books about the breed are
difficult to find. Go to any Barnes & Noble, for example, and you'll
find three different books devoted just to beagles, but the store never
keeps a single basenji book in stock. Although there are some good basenji
books that you can order through Amazon,
the best place for quick information and fun stuff is
Basenji Companions—and
everything is free.
This site contains several well-written articles on health, behavior,
training, etc. To avoid having to return a book because it isn't what
you need, try this site first for an answer to your question(s).
BRAT [Basenji Rescue and Transport]
This site not only showcases rescues who are available for adoption
but also provides background information on the breed. The "Reality
Stories" section will have you laughing hysterically if you know basenjis
and looking for another breed if you are unfamiliar with the behavior
of these little monsters.
I visit the site often, watching as each of my favorites goes from
"pending" to adopted. I haven't looked at every dog rescue
site on the Internet, but of all the ones I have visited, BRAT's is
the best designed, most informative, and easiest to navigate. Kudos
to the folks who have put it together.
In addition to the information posted at the site, BRAT offers a
number of email lists.
BRAT Chat and
BRAT Rescue are excellent sources of basenji information. Eavesdropping
[or participating] on any of these lists [especially
BRAT Chat] will teach either a novice or experienced basenji owner
a new thing or two.
Shaka and Yoda
Many folks have created web sites showcasing their individual dogs.
This one, however, is the most creative and fun. The splash page opens
with the theme song from Cops ["Bad boys, bad boys ... "],
and the site showcases two beautiful red and white littermates with
pictures of their owners as well. Check it out.
